Warning

Welcome! I’m Annie Guyton Abrams—author, storyteller, and Southern daughter.

I was born and raised in Metcalfe, Georgia, a small country town that held big lessons about faith, family, and fortitude. I grew up during the Jim Crow era, where life taught me early how to smile through struggle and find strength in the everyday.

After a fulfilling career with the Department of Defense, I returned to the stories that shaped me—stories of my mama’s hands, my daddy’s fields, our church pews, and the unspoken resilience of rural Black communities. I write to honor that legacy, to preserve it, and to pass it forward.

A heartfelt memoir about growing up in the segregated South, this book is a tribute to the people, places, and prayers that carried me through. It’s a testimony of survival, joy, and choosing to smile even when life gave you every reason not to.
